Who We Are
Operation Kind Heart helps dogs and cats on the Navajo Nation.
This is Operation Kind Heart’s story, where it began, what we’ve done so far and where we are going...
It started with a bag of Blue Bird flour. My brother Darrell had passed away suddenly on March 30, 2020. I was at the local grocery store, during the beginning of the pandemic when the stores were limiting items. There was a mother and her daughter ahead of me in line; they had purchased a bag of Blue Bird flour. Limits were one bag per purchase. So I went over to the pallet where the bags of flour were and purchased one. I walked to the parking lot and handed the bag of flour to the daughter. I said this is in honor of my brother Darrell who passed away a few days ago. She said thank you, and I walked away with tears in my eyes, knowing it’s what my brother Darrell would do as he had a kind heart.
Operation Kind Heart was started that day, and it has been both heartbreaking and heartwarming the lives we have helped and changed so far.
My first delivery of essential items and non perishable food items, including dog/cat food, were delivered to the Dilkon Chapter house in Winslow AZ, May 26th. I did six more deliveries in 2020, two to the Dilkon Chapter house and four to Chilchinbeto AZ. My deliveries included non perishable food items, cleaning supplies, PPE, hay, feed, winter clothing, and dog/cat food. One of the deliveries consisted of five portable water tanks and 16 bales of hay, feed, and more dog food.
Along the way, many dogs crossed my path. Pregnant mama dogs, owner releases, strays, dogs needing to be spayed and neutered, dogs scheduled for euthanasia at the shelters on the Navajo Nation. I started to combine my deliveries with transports of the sweet souls needing a new life.
To date Operation Kind Heart has rescued and transported 500+ dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens from the Navajo Nation to various rescues. Operation Kind Heart has also transported 100+ dogs and cats to spay/neuter surgeries where they were fully vaccinated.
